Lottery seller writes her name and number on customer’s lottery tickets

Are you one of those who buy lottery tickets whenever you feel something good is about to happen? I am too. In fact, I bought a few hundred baht tickets just before New Year in the hopes of winning a million.

Unfortunately, something good didn’t happen. But I strongly believe that someday, just like some of my friends who won 20k and 4k a few months back, the wheel of fortune will roll with the odds on my side.

Anyway, if you’re like me who buys tickets from time to time, I suggest to always check the back of the ticket before paying the seller. There should be no writings of any name at all because the blank spaces are provided for you — the buyer’s name and phone number to show true ownership.

On a Facebook post dated January 15, Little Catfish warned other customers to look behind their lottery tickets before paying the seller. According to her, the tickets she purchased from a seller in Chai Rai wrote her name and number behind it.

Her post which was translated by Thai Residents reads: “Can you do this? This is a warning to look behind your lottery next time you purchase some. I was at Suan Tung in Chiang Rai today when a woman walked up to me and asked me to help buy her lottery tickets, she stated that only a few were left. I helped buy two tickets right away. I later discovered that the seller had written her own name and number on the back of the tickets. If I won the lottery, then would it turn out that I was stealing your money? I decided to go to file a report with the police to make sure that the seller couldn’t claim anything in the future. In case you were wondering, I called the seller from the number that she had written behind the lottery. Her answer was that she hoped the buyer would share the winnings with her. The police told me it was a good decision to come and file a report because the seller can claim that it was her ticket. #canyoudothis #lotterysellerinChiangrai.”

Netizens agreed and supporter her, saying that what the seller did was wrong. Full ownership of the purchased ticket is to the buyer, and sellers have no right to write their names and phone number behind the tickets.

What if the winning ticket you bought has the seller name on it? The winning prize would certainly go to the seller and you as the actual owner won’t get anything. Therefore, the next time you decide to buy a lottery ticket, check the back before paying. We are talking about millions here, ok?
