A Few Reasons Why I Prefer Teaching Adults

Teaching at Pibulsongkram Rajabaht University here in Phitsanulok continues to help me in improving my craft. It is the only academic institution where I’m able to use full-time the degree I got in the Philippines. I’m more than happy and would like to count more years with it.

Just so you know after my college life, I left my island province of Palawan and tried my luck in the bustling city of Makati. I worked there for a year handling calls that originated mostly in North America.

Anyway, PSRU is more like a community university serving the community in more ways than one. I’ve been sent several times to do teacher training courses in neighboring provinces, organized Ecamps for both highschool and university students, and gave lectures to staff of the faculty of Engineering at another university to name a few.

Me with the kindergarten students
Last month, however, foreign teachers including me were invited to teach kindergarten students. I found teaching kids really enjoyable. They’re nice and sweet. They also give you a hug in a moment you least expect. And most importantly, their smiles can melt a heart and their innocence can give peace. But I also must admit that teaching an hour to them is more tedious than teaching adults for three straight hours. LoL. As much as I enjoy teaching them, it is truly a far cry from what I am accustomed to.

If I were to choose between the two, I prefer with no question handling adults. I am more of myself and totally in control whenever I’m standing in the presence of people already working. I personally feel that I am more of an effective teacher to adults as opposed to kids. With kids your patience should really be on top of anything else. And just like your mobile phones, energy should be fully charged.
