From Palawan to L.A.

We feel proud hearing our fellow Filipinos getting waves of positive praises locally or abroad whenever they perform and show off their talents to the world. That’s exactly how I feel last night after watching the video of a guy named Mike who joined the latest singing contest craze, “The Voice Philippines.”

Yes, Don Michael Perez is a Filipino. But I feel prouder because he’s from Palawan.

Most “Palawenos” as we locally termed ourselves don’t have much participation in nationwide contest such as this. Blame it on shyness, no time, low self-confidence, and dozen others. I’m pretty sure there’s a hit.

You may ask why. Sadly, I don’t know too. Lol.

Anyway, the four judges turned to see and hear more from the guy who did a Jason Mraz song, “I’m Yours.” His voice was amazing and the way he played the guitar sounded professional. The judges felt it, and so did I. The feeling of being transformed into the realm of the song where few were able to venture with ease happened to me just like that. I guess he’s a real deal.

Congratulations, man. I don’t know you personally but you just made me prouder of our hometown. Your performance blew the roof off. Keep up the good work and strive for excellence. See you around on TV.
