Naresuan University here in Phitsanulok already changed their school term dates in line with the ASEAN norm this year. I heard from my close friends at Pibulsongkram Rajabaht University that we may also follow and change our term dates next year as well.
I was under the impression that changing the school term dates was also a push from the Ministry of Education to make Thailand’s school term parallel to that of its ASEAN neighbors. But I guess it was just an impression.
Education Minster Chaturon Chaisaeng on Wednesday announced he has told schools to keep the term dates unchanged.
His decision was made despite the announcement of the 27 universities under the Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT) that they will change their term dates in accordance with the ASEAN universities.
The CUPT had agreed to start their first term around August and the second term in January.
I don’t know what’s better between the two. I honestly don’t know. But I hope we keep what’s best even if we aren’t in conformity with other schools in our region.
